How We Build Our Homes
Building a handcrafted home doesn’t need to feel overwhelming.
It all starts with a conversation. We want to get to know you. Our job is to listen, then take what we learn and apply it to craft the best possible home for your family. By front loading the planning portion and figuring out the details early, we can better control the budget and schedule.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
There are many variables that will affect the build cost, including lot selection, size and style of the home, interior and exterior finishes, and the home’s performance and durability, to name just a few. Reach out to our team as early in the process as possible, and we can walk you through these details. There is more information on this topic in our Journal on Square Foot Pricing.

Each home is unique and comes with its own set of considerations. Depending on size, location, accessibility and level of detail, we typically see the construction phase of our projects take anywhere from 10 months to 2 years. The pre-construction phase can take anywhere from 4 to 12 months. It is never too early to start planning, as design, permitting, geotechnical reporting, engineering and budgeting can require significant time, effort and resources.
Allowing the pre-construction phase to run its course and not rushing through it will ensure a project runs more smoothly and with better adherence to budget.

Size, scope, location and accessibility are a few of the main things that can influence costs and timelines. If you have a good understanding of your wants and needs, as well as a realistic budget prior to starting the design phase, this will help immensely. We work closely with a few great architects and designers, and we are happy to help you find a good match. We appreciate being involved from the very first meeting, as we are able to bring a ‘boots on the ground’ perspective to the planning and design process. Building a home is a collaborative team effort, and getting all the key stakeholders involved early on can avoid time consuming and expensive rework.

As a family business, we are fully committed. We are passionate, hardworking and determined. We value honesty and integrity above all else, partnering only with clients and trade partners whose values align with our own. The saying “building a home is like a marriage” could not be more accurate. A significant amount of trust and respect from both parties is essential for success.
During the building process, there will be stressors and challenges. We want to ensure from the start that we are the right fit to navigate these situations together as a team. Therefore, after our initial meeting, we encourage you to consider whether we are a good fit for you and your project, and we will do the same. We look forward to the opportunity to meet with you and explore the possibilities!

Absolutely. We have lived in the Elk Valley for nearly two decades. We have great relationships with a number of local realtors and developers. We know this town inside and out, and would be honoured to assist you in finding your dream lot.

We would be happy to assist with design in house, as we have extensive experience in this area. Alternatively, we can set you up with one of our design partners. If you already have a designer we look forward to building new relationships.
